Why a discussion forum: Lack of organized information on planning. Lack of appropriate space for discussion amongst people from different colleges/countries.

EXISTING PRACTICE OF INFORMATION SHARING

  1. On WhatsApp groups

    • Class groups

    • Alumni groups

    • Workplace groups

    • Professional Groups

  2. Facebook groups

  3. Reddit & Quora (Which we believe are too saturated and uncontrolled)

  4. Twitter

  5. Petitions

HOW WE PLAN TO CHANGE THIS

  1. Provide a single platform to bring together professionals and urban enthusiasts from all over the world.

  2. Planning differs from state to state and country to country. Based on our experience of over 5 years, the problems remain fundamentally the same in all developing countries. These include:

    • Lack of awareness about the profession,

    • Lack of job opportunities,

    • Lack of adequate study material

    • Lack of or incompetent professional body

    • Need of unity by existing professionals to get their voice heard.

  3. Leveraging the power of our existing user base at Planning Tank® built over years, multiple collaborations and wide global reach. Annually we reach over 1 million users & appear over 15 Million times in search engine’s results

ISSUES WITH EXISTING METHODS - Facebook & WhatsApp

  1. Discussions over Facebook & WhatsApp gets lost after a few days

  2. Difficult to keep them saved in a user-friendly manner

  3. Different privacy settings of group, thus limiting the reach and benefit others can take

  4. Global audience which can bring in new perspective

  5. Get to know about global practices without having to search for those specialized websites

PROBLEMS WITH GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES

Most of the time, planning related websites gets buried on page 2-3 or 10, because of the search engine algorithms. You might not find the relevant website through "Googling" since they fail to satisfy various criteria in place by search engines. At times, search engines fail to assess the value and importance of a resource for a planner. They do not have a "planning" perspective to provide you with such special results. Google lists websites in top positions which are either exceptional or belong to a big group.
